English Language Arts: Specialist Teacher
Purpose of the role To develop pupils' reading, writing, speaking and critical thinking skills in English through purposeful teaching aligned with the school's approach, fostering literary understanding, a confident authorial voice and the consistent use of English as the language of instruction.
RESPONSABILIDADES E ATRIBUIÇÕES
Planning and Curriculum Plan lessons aligned with the BNCC, the school curriculum and international English Language Arts frameworks. Design teaching sequences centred on reading, writing, oracy and literary analysis. Select texts and literary works suited to pupils' age and prior learning. Integrate the subject into cross-curricular and whole-school projects. Teaching and Language Teach in English, with a clear and deliberate focus on language development. Develop pupils' reading strategies, academic writing and critical thinking. Broaden pupils' vocabulary and grammatical range through contextualised practice. Plan targeted individual interventions where needed. Assessment and Monitoring Keep systematic records and produce portfolios and reports. Plan and administer formative and summative assessments. Use assessment data to inform teaching decisions. Keep school information systems up to date. Professional Commitment Take part in professional development, staff meetings, pupil progress meetings and school projects. Follow school protocols, internal policies and guidance from leadership. Contribute to curriculum review within the subject area. Uphold the school's culture and values. Partnership with Families Hold meetings with families, give feedback and prepare formal communications. Report on pupils' progress, challenges and support strategies in line with school policy. Share evidence of learning with families. Follow the school's communication protocols. Ethics, Safety and Safeguarding Comply fully with child protection and safeguarding policies. Promote pupils' physical, social and emotional wellbeing. Report safeguarding concerns in line with school procedures. Maintain a safe learning environment. Adhere to the staff code of conduct.
REQUISITOS E QUALIFICAÇÕES
- •Expected Profile Degree in English Language and Literature, Linguistics or a related field. Dedicated, committed and collaborative. Committed to ongoing professional learning. English Proficiency and Certification Fluent English (minimum B2 level). A recognised international certificate is desirable (e.g. Cambridge FCE/CAE, TOEFL or IELTS). Ability to teach entirely in English, with a high level of accuracy and a strong command of academic language. Expected Experience Experience teaching English Language Arts and/or Literature at lower secondary level (Ensino Fundamental II, from Year 6 / 6º ano, pupils aged 11
- •12). Experience in bilingual settings or of teaching through English as the language of instruction. Experience of curriculum planning aligned with the BNCC and international frameworks. Experience of formative assessment and record-keeping. Experience of international curricula (e.g. IB, Cambridge or the English National Curriculum) is desirable.
