Art Teacher (Toddler- 2nd Grade)

Akron Global School believes that childhood is not a preparation for life. It is life itself. We are looking for an Art Teacher to design and facilitate art experiences that foster curiosity, self-expression, and exploration. More than teaching artistic techniques, we are looking for a professional who can create contexts in which children explore materials, media, and creative processes, developing their creativity, independence, and ability to express ideas. The role is inspired by the work of an atelierista: a professional who understands the atelier as a space for investigation and discovery, where materials, tools, images, sounds, movement, and different artistic languages become pathways for children to ask questions, express ideas, and construct knowledge. In Early Childhood, art should not be understood simply as a final product. The focus is on the process, experimentation, discovery, and individual expression of each child. We are therefore looking for someone with demonstrated experience in art and education, sensitivity to working with young children, and a genuine interest in developing an inquiry-based, child-centered artistic practice. This position will be structured on an hourly teaching basis of 10 hours per week.

Plan and facilitate age-appropriate art experiences that respond to students' development, interests, and individual needs.

Foster English language development throughout the school day and support learners to build their confidence to communicate and participate.

Create learning experiences that foster exploration, inquiry, creativity, and self-expression through different artistic languages.

Develop experiences using drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, construction, modeling, photography, installation, and other media and materials, connected to students' projects and interests.

Create and organize atelier environments that invite independent exploration, experimentation, and creation.

Work collaboratively with Head Teachers and Assistant Teachers, connecting art experiences to theprojects and inquiries developed by each class.

Observe students' creative processes and use these observations to extend and deepen learning experiences.

Value the artistic and inquiry process rather than focusing primarily on predetermined outcomes or models.

Document students' processes, creations, and discoveries, helping make their learning and development visible.

Select, prepare, and organize appropriate materials and resources for each learning experience.

Contribute to a school culture that recognizes art as an essential language for children's development and expression.

Demonstrated professional experience in Art and/or Education, particularly working with young children.

Experience in Early Childhood Education will be considered an advantage.

Hands-on experience with a range of artistic languages, materials, and creative processes.

Familiarity with the atelierista approach, Reggio Emilia, or other practices that value inquiry, experimentation, and children's self-expression will be considered an advantage.

A strong understanding of the role of the arts in child developmentability to adapt artistic experiences to different developmental stages.

Experience with project-based and inquiry-based approaches will be considered an advantage.

The ability to create environments and experiences that foster children's independence, curiosity, and individual expression.

Excellent observation, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with teachers and the pedagogical team.

A creative, sensitive, organized, curious, and experimental professional who is genuinely interested in the role of art in children's development opment.

Fluent English is required.

International professional or academic experience will be considered an advantage.
